Revenge of Rondhol

Act Three: Closure

Revenge of Rondhol is a Weave-wide event set in Rondhol, Ghur. With an emphasis on relaxed gameplay, exploratory storytelling, and emotional loss – you can expect a long-lasting campaign that will be easy to jump into as well as keep up with, with all the bells and whistles that you’d expect from an online, multi-system event. Revenge takes advantage of The Great Weave’s Quest system, allowing for flexible ways to get involved in the story.

The entire event is a Game Mastered event, there is no system or machine behind what happens, who “wins” or anything like that. The amount of submissions doesn’t impact what happens, but rather those that participate form the story together, while the GM moves the story along while incorporating player activities. It is much closer to a large, world-wide TTRPG then a traditional wargaming tournament.

Event Organizer’s Notes

Welcome to the Revenge campaign! If you’ve joined us from Act Two, well done on surviving Furyoth Dell (if you did, some of you… weren’t so lucky….). If you’re new to the campaign, you’re very welcome here, and no, it isn’t too late to join in! Check out the “How to Play” section and get stuck into the action, you’ll love it.

The news of the consumption of the Bitingsea has travelled far and wide. Not since the Age of Myth has Rondhol awoken to this extent, and as it’s massive jaws slowly but surely snap shut it is now incurring an extinction-level event – shattering the continent, the Bitingsea, and all that call the area home.

It is now known that the Fae are at fault. Throughout the realms these creatures have been creeping through corrupted realm gates – the existence of which are clearly the work of the infamous Octenheimer, with the help of an old foe – Drekazra the Unbowed. The Fae are originally from the Underplate, the upside-down worlds beneath those realms that can host such a world. They are creatures of nightmares, able to transform their very being and prone to great violence.

These creatures have been integrating themselves into the Realms, taking up positions of power, but transformed as they are, the likelihood of figuring out if one is near before it’s too late is small indeed! Such has occurred here, it is clear that the Fae have not only been extracting amber blood from beneath Rondhol, but they’ve also been manipulating the factions on the continent to keep their actions hidden for as long as possible.

Truly, the Fae make no alliances, an enemy of Chaos Worshiper and Dawnbringer alike they have been busy indeed. The amber blood they are extracting is being collected in vessels they call Chalices – truly large arcane construction built from salvaged parts from the remains of the ancient civilization that lived within Furyoth Dell. It contains the amber blood in one spot, preventing it from regaining sentience, and allows it to be dispensed in small doses. The one Chalice is now thoroughly full, and they are in the process of finishing another. It is becoming abundantly clear that the extraction of the amber blood from Rondhol will result in the continent destroying itself – not to mention all that live atop it. The Svlind closing on the Bitingsea to crash against Lynx’s Crescent, Brinnock and Civilia’s Ruin is only the beginning.

The denizens of Rondhol, from Khardhirian council member, to lowly grot, from Soulblight merchant to Pirate overlord, now look to the advent of the Fae as the penultimate predator – something that must be removed from the Mortal Realms at all costs before it consumes all.

Campaign Timetable

This Campaign has a relaxed, slow-building story. Generally, you’ll find new information will be released once a week though plenty of times this will go down to every two weeks. This will allow for plenty of times to get your games in or do some hobbying. The story itself is split into three Acts, with plenty of time within each one.

How to Participate

1) Read some of the lore, it’s pretty cool! Also read all of the Expected Questions section below.

2) Create a Hero – a main character – for you to play as throughout the Campaign. This Hero will almost certainly have an army/warband/binding that they work with, but it’s through their eyes that you’ll see Rondhol and the ongoing story.

  • Beware, this campaign is long-lasting, and is intended to included loss – it is very likely that portions, or all, of your group will meet an unlikely demise. This is intended, the continent of Rondhol does not appreciate this increase in activity, and including a Hero insures at least someone survives by default (unless you’ve given permission that they be able to perish as well – then, well, no promises).

3) Choose one of the factions below and join the Discord group based on what kinds of armies you’d like to play  (optional, though admittedly recommended).

    • This campaign is so long that playing a number of different groups and Heroes is fairly likely, you’re able to do so easily within the specific Quest by making it clear what your goals are and who you played for that specific game. Within Discord just make your desire to jump to a new faction known, and we’ll get you moved over as soon as possible.

4) Complete any of the available Quests. These will evolve, or outright change, as the campaign progresses.

You can also submit using standard submissions by creating new posts about your endeavours, characters, and other creations. Use this for submitting stories, hobby reports, and anything else you think doesn’t quite fit into a comment section within the Location page. If you do submit this way, they will also be posted on this page (completely optional).

And don’t forget you can get creative with all of this! Locally you could go all out and have custom rules, a custom-made table, maybe some crazy scenario in mind.

Alliances and working together

Although it is possible to play within the Campaign without interacting with others, clearly, it’s way better when we get to co-create together. We’re doing this through our Discord server where you’re able to join a specific alliance and work with others to focus your efforts. In this way, if you can rally your team to complete specific Quests, the likelihood that you’ll come out on top is much higher. But, it doesn’t stop there! Within these dedicated alliance channels you’ll be able to access more information about your particular alliance’s goals, find out more information, and talk to the leader(s) of the various factions. As one example, those who choose to work with the city of Khardihr will get a chance to join the Council of Khardihr, or those who choose to participate in the Waaagh! created by Da Choppas may find opportunities to de-throne Ka-rokk.

Act Three: Closure

Shattered Earth

Rondhol drowns in battle. Civilia’s Ruin has sunken below the waves of the Bitingsea, while Khardihr, an already fallen city, is destroyed – their leaders first picked off by agents of Chaos, and then the entirety of the populace is displaced as the now sedentary city is overrun by the denizens of the forest. Meanwhile the Bitingsea is awash with blood, the likes of Targug, Khrovar, and Carminnio have been plundering and killing the refugees that attempt to escape the chaos via the ocean. But the true battle for the land has certainly been the attack on the Fae’s monstrous Voidfang – an unlikely host indeed taking on the megafauna while attempting to thwart the Fae’s plans within the land.

Critical Deals

Critical Deals

Civilia’s Ruin ran with the blood of mortals. Skarra Spinebreaker had seen her fair share of battles on Ghur’s wrathful seas, but the war of Civilia had become one of the most deadly. Maybe it was the fact that blood simply dissipated in the ocean, whereas here it floated between buildings and beneath broken bridges – around the ankles of those still standing. Skarra was not.

The Closing of Jaws

Dramatis Personae

There are a few factions and people which will be good to know about before journeying to Rondhol. These represent the major movers and shakers currently within the campaign, but keep in mind – most certainly will change as time goes on as their influence rises and falls.

The City of Khardihr

Khardihr, like all cities that have developed past their Dawnbringer beginnings exists to see mortals thrive in the realms. They seek to drive those forces that would see the destruction of order from the lands of Rondhol, but with the added benefit of getting rich in the process. The city of Khardihr is highly mercantile and has it’s eyes on the newly revealed Furyoth Dell, and the rest of Rondhol, with only one goal – that of acquiring riches, powerful artefacts, and the secrets of the realms.

The Council

The Council is the preeminent power of Khardihr. This council frequently changes members as those that rise and fall in influence gain access, while unseating those that fall behind. Like everything in Ghur, you are both predator and prey within the Council…

The House of Vermillio

The House of Vermillio is an ancient family of, what is now know publicly, soulblight. The city isn’t particularly happy with their current arrangement with the family, but due to their influential place in the city, and that of it’s Council, there isn’t exactly all that they can do about it.

Within the City

The Vermillio Family operates as Khardihr ’s largest internal financier. Most, if not all, undertakings by the city government is in some way funded by the Vermillios.

Lord Haddrik Carminnio

Acting as the Prime-Navigator for the Dread Myriad, Lord Haddrik Carminnio believes himself to be uniquely possessed of the skill to perform the task of guiding the Myriad’s fleet back to its ancestral waters in Rondhol to finally claim the trade routes of The Svlind for their lineage.

The Wrathful Land

Ghur itself is fairly adversarial of any attempt at order, and Rondhol is particularly hateful towards anything that would attempt control within it’s boarders. The mighty forces of destruction – and those that owe their allegiance to the land itself – take this to heart here and desire nothing less then the pure demolition of any order whatsoever.

Da Choppas

For centuries, the orruks of Rondhol had largely been content to fight one another, the monsters of the river lands, the hordes of the Blood God and Sigmar’s crusaders. Now, however, an outside force has riled them up – one clad in rusty, chequered blue…

Eater of Armadas

Targug the Cleaver – Bane of the Templian Guild of Mercadors and self-proclaimed Eater of Armadas – commands the greatest terror in the western Ghurish Heartlands. He, along with with his thugs, have currently landed in Lynx’s Crescent – burning the Rondholian lynxes from their lairs and driving them into waiting cleavers and cudgels.

Rondholian Sylvaneth

Sylvaneth from across the continent  have risen up against those that would seek to tame this great land. Many have been taken up by the song of the Waaagh! in fact, and are seen marching alongside the orruks and other more feral beings of Rondhol. In particular, the Brashbriar Brood have been seen actively assaulting the forces of Order from Furyoth Dell all the way to the Bitingsea.

Chaotic Reavers

Chaos exists in many forms across the Mortal Realms, and Rondhol is no different. Here, those that owe their allegiance to a chaos god, or some personification of chaos, do so while also recognizing the mightiness of Ghur itself.

Khrovar Blackmaw

Captain Blackmaw is a skilled hunter of both men and beast upon the waves and not one to be crossed. He admires, values, and covets loyalty, after being betrayed by his crewmates prior to his corruption by Khorne.

sorrahnikos

Sorrah Nikos

Sorrah Nikos is the mastermind behind the chaos and conquest of Civilia’s Ruin. Once disguised as a kind and cordial doctor, trapped alongside Civilia’s citizenry in an unexpected cataclysm, she has since emerged as a Magister of Tzeentch, claiming the town as a personal testing ground for numerous foul experiments.

Never played Narrative Games before, or feel a little anxious about them?

When you’re playing a narrative game, the key thing is to talk to your opponent. Make sure you both agree on the rules of the game as well as the narrative you are hoping to tell together. We recommend using the “Narrative Play” rules, but you can still have a rewarding experience if you have “Open Play” or “Matched Play” games.

Now that that’s out of the way, here are some very general ideas you could incorporate. If you’ve ever been to a narrative event, these might look familiar to you! These are in no particular order, and they are not campaign rules.

The Rule of Interesting

Use every game as a plot point. Promote your army’s, General’s, and Alliance’s objectives. Affect the story and the rest of the campaign by communicating both to your opponent during a game, and with others outside of the games. Make your army memorable! You’re awesome, and others think you’re awesome, so share stuff!

The Rule of Making Stuff Up

Want your army to do something not covered in the rules? Magic ritual? Dig up trenches? Sacrifice a prisoner? Talk to your opponent (or GM if you have one) and see if it can be arranged. Be flexible when you get similar requests or ideas.

The Rule of Collaboration

What happens between games can be as important as what happens during games. Collaborate: with your team, with the GM or campaign creator, with your rivals! Ask questions, take risks! Make alliances, and backstab people.

The Rule of a Cool Story

Your games are stories. Your goal for each game should be to co-create that story alongside your opponent, keeping your various Quest goals in mind. When in doubt, do what feels cool for your army. In-game Objectives be damned. The winners in Narrative Play are those who get the most laughs or applause from their crazy actions, not those who win the most games. If the player who ‘lost’ the game goes away excited with how it all unfolded, you’ve hit the mark!

Resolved Quests

When Quests are affected to the point that they are no longer possible to impact, they are resolved. You can find the resolved Quests for Revenge of Rondhol here:

It’s a big world out there…

The continent of Rondhol is massive and although the conflicts that revolve around the crashing of the Xarlanth, the occupation of Civilia’s Ruin, and the exposure of Furyoth Dell are impacting the land itself, there is still a lot more going on throughout the area. Did you know that the Kraken Blades have plunged into the Beastgrave? Or that Brinnock – the apex of Sigmar’s bold advance into Rondhol – has been engulfed by the most ferocious Waaagh! seen in over a century?

To that end, if you’d like to find out more about what’s going on, and find more ways to integrate your games into the story we recommend checking out The Great Weave’s Discord home. There you’ll find “The Gazette” where news from the area is shared, providing even more story hooks for you to use.

Expected Questions
Does it matter which army I play as?
You can play as any AoS faction. The Furyoth Dell has been separated from the realms for centuries and the groups in power do not care about the Grand Alliance that you come from. That said, the rest of Rondhol most certainly has a grasp on alliances within the greater Mortal Realms
How do Quests even work?
The Quests available in this Campaign represent the on-going conflicts in the area, or the decisions that are being made by the players. Within each Quest you'll find more information on the situation, as well as a place at the bottom of the page to 'submit' your response to what's going on. Quests are not complicated, you read through the Quest information, and if it's interesting to you you play a game or complete hobby. You then comment on the Quest page with the results of this, telling us what occurred for your specific hero or warband, and what were the results of your actions. You can can 'submit' in this way once per week per Quest for this campaign, but it's very flexible in nature.
Does it matter which army I play against?
Not at all. In fact, your opponent doesn't even need to be playing in the campaign for it to "count" towards what's happening. Very similar to how Path to Glory, or Warcry Campaigns works.
What Game Systems are Accepted?
Right now, we're expecting games to be played in the Warcry or Age of Sigmar Tabletop systems - as well as Soulbound
Can I play as an existing Hero, or should I make a new Hero for this campaign?
Yes! Of course you can play as an existing Hero! That said, just like how the Path to Glory system doesn’t allow for a Unique character to be your Warlord, we recommend not using a named character created by Games Workshop - remember, this is the story of your characters, so lets focus on them! That said, we would actually recommend using a new character for Vaults of Wonder. It'll help solidify your character within the story, but more then that, this Campaign will involve significant losses and set-backs, something you might not want for your favourite hero
Why is this Campaign so long?
We wanted to give players an option to participate in a story that's a little more relaxed or casual in nature. You can participate in this one largely your own pace, hopefully without feeling pressured into getting lots done in a short amount of time. One reason we're going for something a little different emotionally, is because the story proceeds so slowly. We don't want any emotive loss just because we're not shoving content down your feed!

Tapestry of Fate

The Revenge of Rondhol campaign is part of Tapestry of Fate, a multi-faceted story told across a number of various events and campaigns – find out more here:

Rondhol
A lurking predator in the western Heartlands of Ghur, Rondhol is an ancient place of wrathful rivers and primal magics. It speaks of the ambitions of the Dawnbringer Crusades that mortals would dare try to settle here - and the greenskin clans that roam the continent are more than willing to give them a proper Rondholian welcome

The Svlind

The myriad islands that make up the Svlind form an elaborate trade network, though it is often disrupted by opportunistic raiders.

Furyoth Dell

Home to wild monsters and ruins from an ancient civilization from the Age of Myth. Hidden away for centuries by the jungle and the shifting mountains, it is now exposed and connected to the wider realms by a convergence of realmgates in this region, leading to all over the Mortal Realms

Mountains of Maraz

The Mountains of Maraz were formed in the Age of Myth, created by Sigmar’s hits during his twelve-day battle with Gorkamorka, it is found on the continent of Rondhol.

Anvilrgore Peaks

Deep in the inner reaches of the Mountains of Maraz smoke bubbles subtly throughout the cold, with two towering peaks of ever pouring magma.

Gaping Portal

The Gaping Portal is an ancient realmgate to Gallet hewn into the shape of a massive maw of a terrifying sea creature.

River Att

The grand furious torrent that cuts across the heart of Rhondol, its main body is hungrily fed by all the other arteries that run across the mainland.

The Xarlanth

The shattered wreckage of The Xarlanth, a Seraphon void ship, is scattered across Rondhol.

Civilia's Ruin

Little is known about the sudden collapse of the once-flourishing outpost of Civilia, now a waterlogged ruin shrouded by a dense fog.

Khardihr

The floating city of Khardihr is located within Rondhol. It has recently had its eyes on the Furyoth Dell, but frequents many places within the continent in search of treasure and glory.

Lynx's Crescent

The promontory of Lynx's Crescent is home to the rare Rondholian lynx, whose prized pelts drive much illicit poaching and trading in the area.

Brinnok

Brinnok is a Sigmirite stronghold built above a site where ancient artifice was used to craft rock, metal, and bone into lightweight yet incredibly durable armour.

The Veldtwend

The wide expanses and packed earth of the Veldtwend are perfectly suited for blistering cavalry strikes.

Lake Retch

Lake Retch is a sacred site for the Gloomspite Gitz, supposedly formed from a massive glob of spittle hawked up by the Bad Moon. There is a strange power in its waters that causes unnatural growth in beasts.

Diamondback Rapids

An infamous maze of rivers and roaring waterfalls, the Diamondback Rapids offers a swift route for those foolish enough to take the risk.

Behemoth Graveyard

Vast titans of the Rondholian plain instinctively journey to this bleak valley when they sense death approaching, adding their own corpses to its great mounds of ossified remains.

Rondhol Heartlands

Though treacherous, the network of rapids and canyons criss-crossing the Rondhol Heartlands provides critically important passageways through this inhospitable landscape.

The Closing Jaws

As Rondhol’s massive jaws slowly but surely snap shut it is now incurring an extinction-level event – shattering the continent, the Bitingsea, and all that call the area home. Unless this process is stopped, this closure will continue throughout the campaign

The City of Khardihr
The floating city of Khardihr is located within Rondhol and has recently descended on the Furyoth Dell in search of treasure and glory. The city is managed and lead by the Council of Khardihr who dictates where the city goes, and other managerial tasks. The city is primarily made up of aelves, men, and duardin, but the city boasts a very diverse set of peoples with many different beliefs managing to work under a single roof, so to speak.
The Xarlanth
The shattered wreckage of The Xarlanth, a Seraphon void ship, is scattered across Rondhol. It is largely assumed that the ship fell to Ghur due to some confrontation within the void, though the details currently allude scholars. More research is needed.
Your Creations

We’re inviting players to contribute to the story throughout the campaign. If you head over to the standard submissions page of the Weave, you’ll be able to submit your very own Heroes, armies, creatures, locations, or even fully-fledged stories that tell of your exploits within the area. When you do so, they’ll appear both in our Ghur Realm page, as well as on this page for all to see!
